Brexit or Covid, which is worse?

3rd United Hotel Media Podcast by Hotel Analyst & hospitalityInside

Podcast Jan 2021

Augsburg (January 15, 2021). The six months between our last podcast and today show how much the virus also hunts journalists. At the end of May 2020, Great Britain was "only" worried about the virus, in January it is Covid-19 and the last-minute Brexit exit. That's why a large part of the speaking time in the 3rd United Hotel Media Podcast today belongs to the editor-in-chief of Hotel Analyst in London, Andrew Sangster. He predicts the mega travel boom in late spring.

Andrew Sangster takes it with British humour: Covid-19 is already more of a concern for the British, yes, but there is also a prospect of improvement there - just like with Brexit: with this issue, only a certain degree of uncertainty remains from the years of total uncertainty - if one disregards the long migrant queues for entry at EU airports, which the islanders will soon be allowed to join. Moreover: The pro-Brexit vote caused the British pound to fall by 20%, and that brought the hospitality industry more than the political Brexit decision...

Brexit + virus + permanent lockdown are teaming up to form superdynamics: the trio is now increasing people's frustration to such an extent that a travel boom from May/June is inevitable. "Brits will be on the fly, not just for leisure but also for business," he predicts. Why? Because the weather on the island is always bad... And he laughs again.

Maria Puetz-Willems from hospitalityInside.com sees the mood in Germany and continental Europe somewhat more restrained.
