Holding up team morale

HLTW school students excited about Theaterhotel staging next week

  Theaterhotel Wien Teller anrichten

Vienna (February 9, 2018). The countdown is on, and next Friday and Saturday, excitement will reach its peak. As reported, 230 school students of the HLTW13 Bergheidengasse tourism and economics school will stage the so-called "Theaterhotel" at Austria Trrend Hotel Savoyen Vienna. There is an additional challenge connected to this event taking place on Saturday, February 17, 2018, as songwriter Konstantin Wecker will give a charity concert in the course of Theaterhotel. A tiny detail within a huge organisational effort that will be fully taken care of by school students of the A levels class in collaboration with their younger schoolmates. This hospitalityInside article is to further support the young people's passion for hotels and tourism!

Barbara Hrdina of the "Department of Sales & Marketing" is nonetheless rather cool this week – like a professional: "There are only a few finishing touches missing, and we need to pay the invoices for the goods". Two visits to the hosting hotel, Austria Trend Savoyen, were still pending at the time of our interview. The final check is moving closer, pulses are rising …

There had never been more pupils participating than this year, she says. This is thanks to this wonderful songwriter, whose generosity will immensely contribute to fulfilling Theaterhotel's social purpose, which is to help children and young people in Indian villages. This is why Barbara Hrdina and her team colleagues need to make sure that the morale of the group of school students stays at a peak until the event is over. "But our HR department did a great job", she says enthusiastically.

As the school students of the Hoehere Bundeslehranstalt fuer Tourismus und Wirtschaft (tourism and economics school) Vienna 13 (www.hltw13.at) have learnt, motivation does not start the day of the event. There needs to be preparation work, e.g. on incentive travel. The team organising Theaterhotel and their assistants, pupils of the first, second and third grade and the "super interns" was active already last year. The latter are only 12 or 13 years old and often just think about applying at the school. Despite that, they are already willing to assist and gather experience. This is why 25 super interns will be supporting service next week or helping out at the tea station or reception. They have done things together several times before, such as visiting sponsors or another hotel, in order to understand processes.

How do you form a team out of these very young people? "You need to deal with them at eye level, forgive mistakes and encourage them to do it better next time". Barbara Hrdina knows it by herself and that this is the only way to make things work. And certainly not from a manual on human capital.

The result of this mutual respect in dealing with each other, and the enthusiasm about a common goal across age groups and social differences create deep friendships – often for life.
