Your toolbox for the future: Inspiration and innovation, also at HITT
29.3.2024

Dear Insiders,

Guests' expectations will continue to rise further and further, as "liquid expectations". This is the key sentence from an interview with best-selling author Anne Schüller and from her new book "Mastering the Future". She put on her "hotel glasses" for us. Haim Katz, the Israeli Minister of Tourism, is again encouraging travel to the Holy Land - and stresses the safety. Goldman Sachs/B&B, citizenM, the HR Group and the Grand Hotel Belvédère in Davos, as well as Amex and Carlson Wagonlit: either they are for sale or the deals have already been signed. The Dutch Authority for Consumers and markets has made Booking.com to delete its sustainability programme. Green-washing!?

Everything is real at the HITT Think Tank. We welcome three more top speakers on the topic of innovation: Dr. Noha Ahmed Al-Harthi from Saudi Arabia; as Head of Emerging Technologies, she is one of the luminaries of the gigantic future city NEOM. Also Prof. Dr. David Abbink from TU Delft, a specialist in human-robot interaction and initiator of "Future of Work". Thirdly, Matt Welle, the CEO of the young Unicorn Mews. We offer even more so that you have enough material for your Easter week.

The essence of future: liquid expectations
29.3.2024

Who knows the term anastrophe? Only very few. But everybody knows catastrophe and we are waiting anxiously for the next one to happen. It would be better to be on the lookout for the next anastrophe – the turn for the better. Anne Schüller's book "Zukunft meistern" (master the future, in German language only) gives the red card to progress stallers and mental couch potatoes. The author knows from her time at Accor, how the industry works.

Is Booking.com's "Travel Sustainable" program considered greenwashing? The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) didn't use that word but certainly highlighted a lack of clarity.

Electronic waste is growing to record levels
29.3.2024

The toaster gives up the ghost after a year, the printer just after the warranty expires: electrical appliances no longer live as long as they used to. But increasing consumption is also to blame for the high volume of waste. The UN is alert.

Welcome to indoor camping
29.3.2024

Instead of sleeping bags under the stars, holidaymakers can expect a bed with slatted frame and mattress, instead of bread on a stick around the campfire a breakfast basket with bread rolls and juice. Indoor camping is in.

MIPIM showed where the market is moving - Hotels still in demand
Desired in the district
29.3.2024

Although investor risk in the real estate market is increasing, many experts at the MIPIM in Cannes were more optimistic again and expect an increase in transactions. Markets such as the USA, the UK and Northern Europe are already well advanced in their price adjustments. Germany, on the other hand, is still struggling. Nevertheless, the market is slowly moving again. Hotels are often in focus - also as an important part of sustainable cities.
